[UX Resources] 🪧 Whiteboarding Exercises
📌 Note: This step in the interview is used by some companies to replace the take-home design exercise and is considered slightly more ethical, assuming the objective is not related and not going to be used by the company (free labour is bad). Though this method has its drawbacks, too.
First, going from an objective/problem to a somewhat formed solution within 30-50 minutes is very far from the real job of a UX designer. You will never need to design something like this within an hour. Second, not every person is "wired" to be thinking so quickly on the spot. Many great designers shine during deep thinking time and this is the opposite of that. So, these candidates will not be able to show their true potential, which does not help create inclusive culture and hiring process.
Personally, when I was interviewing at Amazon, and I went through the full day of interviews and presentations, the last hour - the whiteboarding challenge - was my only favourite part =)
